My cousin Camille is 12 years old. She’s 12 years old and lives in Haarlem, Holland.

She enjoys everything that a normal 12 year old girl enjoys.

But she’s different.  For the past year she’s been struggling with anorexia. She’s been in and out of hospital and sometimes been so weak that she has to use a wheelchair to get around. At eleven years old she would sneak down to the bins in the middle of the night and inspect the packaging of the food she ate that afternoon to see the calorie content. I’ve seen her weight plummet over the past months, and seen her so ill that I couldn’t hug her in fear of hurting her.

This week, after thinking the was on the path to recovery, she was rushed back into hospital.

This isn’t just about Camille, this is about anyone who suffers with an eating disorder. Friends of people who suffer with eating disorders. Family of people who suffer from eating disorders.

We need to speak out more about it and get the message out there that there is help, and there is a light at the end of this. It may look blurry now, but its there.
